My first Danish purchases!

Well, they’re not really my ‘first’ purchases, but the first worth reporting. After this post on boots for Fall, I began going on a scout around the many shoe stores in Odense. I found one that I fell in love with – all the shoes were totally my style. Unfortunately, I soon found out that the boutique was closing due to the huge competition of shoe stores in the area. But fortunately they were having a closing out sale whereby all items were discounted by 70%. Wahoo. Wow, my husband is lucky there were not more shoes in size 38 left. I managed to score these two pairs of boots for 543 Kr. ($89 CND!) Am looking forward to wearing them over the next 6 or so months. Isn’t it funny how a simple purchase of warm weather attire, can suddenly make the long, cold, rainy, windy, snowy and dark days ahead of you seem suddenly more appealing?

Btw. both pairs are Pavement, a relatively new brand to the Danish shoe market but with a very good repuation for style, quality and affordability. All leather and all made in Spain. You can find Pavement shoes sold online here, here and here.

Sexy summer sandals

Although I’m a self confessed shoe lover (or perhaps shoeaholic Imelda Marcos…) I find when it comes to summer shoes, I am a bit off the mark and just slip on my havianas for pure ease and heat induced laziness. Now that I’m a mature over 30 year old, mother of 2 and an apparent a trend setter, I probably should up the ante on the summer sandals front. Over to my standby Asos, the brilliant British online store that provides international shoppers with free shipping (win win). Their shoe department takes my breath (and credit card details) away. While they do provide shoppers with my standard Havianas, there are some wonderful sandals that have convinced me to do away with my rubber flip flops! Here are some of my favourite shoes from ASOS this season, enjoy!

I love the ASOS FREIDA Leather Flat Sandals with Woven Toe Loop, it has an ancient Greek goddess feel about it and would be gorgeous paired with rolled up white jeans and a floaty blouse.

For the Mom with money to spend, I adore the Dune Jump T Bar Flat Sandals. With the luxurious blend of leather and suede these stunning muted colours would be lovely with a cotton shirt dress and a martini.

I love how Asos provides for those of all shapes and budgets. The ASOS FINSBURY Toe Thong Flat Sandals covers all the bases: versatile, comfortable and affordable.

Finally, like my studded converse high tops, I think sometimes we need to make a leap of faith and try something really different. For this, I love ASOS FIELD TRIP Canvas Two Part Gladiator Sandals. Their kitsch tropical design will catch the eye but you’ll certainly be bold, bright and beautiful in these!

Chuck the rubber flipflops this summer, grow up and be a stylish shoe Mumma this summer!

Top 12 in 2012: Essential Pairs of Shoes

As you well know, I may not have a lot of clothes, but I make up for it in the shoe department. I LOVE shoes. I have a size 6 1/2 – 7, narrow foot so I can always find shoes I like at amazing prices. My love for shoes began when I worked at Nine West for 4 years while I was at university and due to the 40% discount I acquired quite a collection. Since then I’ve enjoyed finding shoes at thrift stores, swap parties as well as on sale in high street stores. And from time to time, I’ve purchased shoes brand new (before sale) – shock horror! So I feel I have full authority to share my top twelve (yes that many) pairs that a SSM needs in her wardrobe!

 i love myself a new pair of shoes. especially comfy ones. these definitely are in competition with my TOMS and Allstars. They perfectly fit the ‘my husband hates them but i love them cause they’re so darn comfy’ bracket. Perfect for school drop off/pick up, swim lesson drop off/pick up, running to and from yoga, bike rides and running errands. These babies are from Native shoes, a local company that makes what i call ‘outdoorsy’ shoes: practical and useful for all kinds of weather and terrains. They also come in all kinds of fantastico colours and even better, kids sizes! For the Fall/Winter season they have some brilliant boots which have entered my personal wishlist, see here. My shoes (see above) are called The Jericho and come in about seven different colours and are ‘animal free, washable, waterproof, anti-microbal (which means they don’t spread fungi and yucky stuff like that), shock absorbant and (phew!) odor resistant (yay!). I highly recommend any Mom getting their hands on a pair of these goodies. I’m definitely going to get a lot of wear out of mine!

…cause I got wedges! 

Along with a 70′s revival, I love the wedges continuing revival. It is so, so practical for flat wearing Mom’s like myself. Normally you’d see me in my staple pair of gold ballet flats, black Toms or flip flops this Spring

Bright Foundations Wedges/Summer but this year I’m going to take a (tall) leap of faith and get myself some sexy wedges. Yes they’re sexy, our hubbies love them and get this, so do our back and ankles!! Even Toms have their own wedges!

Here are some of my suggestions for Momma friendly wedges this season. The key for comfort is the back strap – or back coverage. If you are wearing simply slip on wedges, good luck not tripping over in the sandbox. However if you have enough support you’ll be able to don these shoes, carry a kid in one arm and the laundry basket in the other plus you’ll be darn hot…gee, I’m sounding like a 50′s housewife manual… Of course my search for the perfect Mommy wedges does pay hommage to my fave stores! 

Lemon Stick Wedges

 For my colour blocking friends, try these Bright foundations wedges ($188 from Anthropologie). Made from suede, these wedges will give a plain outfit a burst of colour, i think these will be wonderful for both day or night – equally looking great with jeans or with a little black dress. For the vintage loving Mom I love these flowery flouncy wedges. The yellow is perfect for this season and they provide a heap of support (lemonstick wedgies, $148, @anthropologies. Ok so i have a confession. My three year old helps me out with my styling choices (that’s probably the times when you read a post and are enjoying my choices 

and suddenly go – ooh that’s not quite right that one there… it’s probably my son’s choice) so here’s his wedge choice – he loves the pink raffia Zara ($69.90) wedge and I have to agree- you can’t go wrong with the classic espadrille and pink is so trendy this season, it just adds a bit of fun to our mundane (speak for myself) Mommy lives. Finally for the Mom who isn’t completely down with the high, high wedge, here’s one for you – with the Spring 2011 colours

RAFFIA WEDGE HEEL SHOE

we’re seeing – the ‘mini’ (cute!) wedge with plaiting (blue, $99.90) from Zara. I love this one – it has a handy zip at the bag easy for a quick zip on as you run out of the door and the mini wedge
