I recently came across this wonderful, local online vintage store, Shoppalu. They began this year and feature a wide variety of stylish vintage clothes and accessories. They are incredibly selective with their pieces and I am crushing on so many items in this store. Here are some of my favourites.
Shoppalu sent me a gorgeous black leather purse which I will show to you soon (I promise!) and two stunning piece of jewellery, pictured below. The vintage stone ring is a Avon green gem ring from the 1980′s and the bangle is a unique East Indian inspired bangle from the 1970s, it’s twin is still for sale here. I have recently fallen in love. With personalised jewellery. Maybe it’s me getting older and more emotional. Maybe it’s because my boys are growing up so fast and I want to hold onto them as long as I can. But we were shopping on Father’s Day and I saw a plain silver Tiffany’s heart in the cabinet and immediately asked to look at it, showed it to my hubby and was giving him the “oh i want this so badly darling warling baby waby” look…
Thankfully, I have also come across a more affordable and local solution: Suetables. These ladies specialise in personalised, elegant yet funky jewellery. When perusing local designers recently, I came across Bueno Style and was fortunate enough to meet Christi York, Bueno Style’s designer at a local craft fair. I fell in love with all her pieces and purchased a cocktail ring for myself which I absolutely adore. What I love about Bueno Style is that the pieces are made of recycled vintage jewellery reworked into funky, beautiful, stand out pieces. Christi launched Bueno Style in January 2007 and she uses most vintage discontinued glass and brass filigrees, beads and lockets from the 1920-80s. Christi will even work with pieces you have eg. inherited jewellery from your great-great aunt, creating a custom piece of jewellery you’ll actually wear! Check out some of her designs here. For the sentimental Mom, this pendant is cut from a sheet of sterling silver and the family tree is intricately cut using a jeweler’s saw. The surface is then given a satin brushed finish. This is a beautiful way for Mom to wear the names of her family around her neck. This is made by Vancouver artist Shirley of Wearthou. Shirley has kindly offered 20% off all between 15-21 May.
